On April 20th, the Young Professionals' Board (YPB) of the Bright Promises Foundation will host a special showing of the Tony Award-winning Musical, Billy Elliott, and an after-show party at the Wit Hotel to benefit the Foundation.  Click here for more information.

The YPB is comprised of people who are interested in furthering the work and promoting the mission of the Foundation by lending their time and professional knowledge. YPB member Lisa Mayotte said, " I felt joining the YPB would be a great, fun and rewarding way to make a difference to this community and its children." Fellow YPB member Heather Felchle said she joined to "actually make a difference and give children the best future possible."

About Us

The Bright Promises Foundation is the only independent public foundation in Illinois solely dedicated to funding programs for children.

Mission
The Bright Promises Foundation creates opportunities for Illinois children to reach their full promise and potential. We work with organizations to develop and deliver programs that provide the foundation for positive lives.

The Bright Promises Foundation has been serving the children of Illinois for 140 years. Through research and discussion with leading children’s experts and organizations, the Bright Promises Foundation identifies areas of great need, where it can make a difference. The Bright Promises Foundation and its partners develop and fund programs that are best able to provide solutions to those needs, while monitoring results and sharing knowledge. The issues we address change as children’s needs change, but our commitment to funding lasting solutions remains. We are currently focused on improving the nutrition of Illinois

Bronzeville, a primarily African American, low-income Community on the south side of Chicago, is a food desert and home to a population that suffers from disproportionate rates of obesity, hypertension, diabetes and other health-related problems compared to other neighborhoods.  Parents often serve children pre-prepared, unhealthy foods due to lack of time and access to healthier options.

The Center for New Horizon’s Healthy Children/Healthy Adults project has motivated dozens of children and their families to change the way they think about healthy foods by making learning about a healthy lifestyle and the preparation of fresh, nutritional foods enjoyable.  Children and their families are realizing that being healthy is important and that living a healthy lifestyle is achievable.
